head

New Orleans Dixieland Jazz will not have songs that you can sit in a corner and listen to and doze off in the middle. These foot-thumping beats will keep you on your toes throughout!

Have you noticed how someone who’s listening to original trad jazz is always by default tapping their shoes or fingers? The tunes are so vitalizing that you just can’t contain the excitement without dancing.

But not everyone knows how to move to every Jazz beat; it takes learning and practice to get better at it. If you and your S.O. are big fans of Jazz, we would love to perform live at your wedding. But before that, it’ll do you good to practice some moves.

Dancing To Your Favorite Jam

Jazz Square

Ever been in an engagement party where the couple of the hour has a jazz band playing live? How do you resist the urge to tap your feet and sway your hip to the tune! Even if you want to dance to the jazz songs playing, there’s a slim chance you’ll be able to impress without having practiced.

Jazz square is a simple step that’s easy to master. All you need to know is how to move your feet back and forth in a rhythm and there you have it. But don’t freak out just yet, it’ll come to you with time and some practice.

Once you learn the trick, you can do it fast enough with a little swing to make it look like a proper Jazz square to Sweet Georgia Brown playing in the background.

Jazz Layout

This is another one of the classic jazz moves and is often performed in dance sequences. Gather your group of friends and dance to jazz to have the best time of your life!

The perfect pose for this dance step is achieved with just some flexibility. Bend your back backward with your head falling back, raise your arms up front and enjoy Puttin’ – On The Ritz with your best pals.

Isolations

Who doesn’t like to swing the hips a little to Alice Blue Gown from our album ‘Still Havin’ Fun.’ All you need to do is loosen your knees a little and raise your arms to the side. Once you’re in the form like everyone else on the floor, keep your chest and legs as still as possible and sway your hips.

Grab a Jazz dance partner and hit the floor without any delay! Trust us, it’s going to be so much fun dancing to Lime House Blues once you can sway your hips like that. Our band will make sure to add flourishes to keep the party going till the end of the night.
