When it comes to Jazz performances, attire matters immensely. It has the power to grab the audience’s attention or to make them lose interest in your live act. If you’re not dressed to impress, the crowd may even end up leaving the venue before you know it.
Since Jazz is a genre that’s synonymous with elegance and sophistication, tuxedos and suits are the way to go. But why is the way you dress so important for Jazz musicians?
The Razzmajazz Dixieland Band has all the answers you’re looking for.
It Helps with the Technique
As surprising as it is, wearing a formal shirt with dress pants, a vest, and a tuxedo helps when it comes to playing instruments and dancing on stage. The Razzmajazz Dixieland Band is known for its colorful style of dressing. We often wear formal vests, ties, and fedora hats to appeal to our audience. Formal clothing makes it easy for musicians to roam around the stage and play their instruments.
A tight shirt won’t allow us to play the clarinet, banjo, and guitar easily. It will get in the way and will most likely tear at the seams when we lift the instrument.
Musicians also become immersed in their performances, so it’s more than likely that they’ll end up dancing on the stage. The right attire allows us to move freely and helps us keep up with the energy of the crowd.
It Makes Us Look Presentable
Every genre of music has its own fashion movement. You wouldn’t expect punk rock musicians to dress in a suit. Similarly, you wouldn’t expect a Jazz musician to wear a jumpsuit.
Jazz is known for its elegance, intricate melodies, and soulful music. That’s why dressing the part is extremely important for Jazz musicians.
At Razzmajazz Dixieland Band, we wear matching clothes because it goes with the concept or theme of our Jazz band. You’ll often find us wearing the same attire for a performance because it creates uniformity and shows that we are likeminded people with the same passion for Jazz.
But that doesn’t mean we don’t find ways to make everything fun—including our attire!
Razzmajazz Dixieland Band is known for its colorful and vibrant dressing style. We put the “fun” in “funky” performances! We’re not afraid to experiment with the designs and colors of our attire.
