Laissez Les Bons Temps Rouler
Sure, Mardi Gras is only a few months away, but this doesn’t mean you can’t prepare for your party well beforehand.
As one of the most exciting events of the year especially in New Orleans, Mardi Gras has to be celebrated accordingly. And by that, we mean, with parades, masks, beads and your very own Mardi Gras party!
Here’s all you’ll need!
Checklist for Your Mardi Gras Party
– Decorations and Favors
Can’t have a Mardi Gras themed party without appropriate décor! This event requires special colors, like gold, green and purple, which you’ll easily get at any local party store. Buy plenty of colorful bead necklaces and party poppers, loads of paper confetti, exquisite masks and streamers.
Use fancy golden candles, with green and purple embellishments, hang colorful fairy lights, make paper chains and have a piñata for the little ones. It’s a fun celebration, after all!
– Food and Drinks
For Mardi Gras, it’s best to just stick with some classic Fat Tuesday recipes, like the Louisiana Jambalaya or the King cake or any special food from Creole cuisine. For that homemade feel, ask your caterer to prepare some seafood gumbo and make it spicy.
Serve mini crab cakes or Muffuletta dip as appetizers and pecan pralines or bourbon bread pudding as dessert. As for alcohol, Hurricanes are usually the preferred cocktail for this occasion.
– Entertainment
No Mardi Gras celebration is complete without the right entertainment! In this case, it’s a live jazz band. Mardi Gras, New Orleans and Jazz have been connected to one another since this style of music originated.
So hiring an appropriate band, like Razzmajazz will do just the trick in giving your party that added layer of fun. We play fun, energetic tunes like Dixieland jazz, ragtime and swing jazz, so your guests will have plenty of good music to dance the night away to!
– Venue
If you’re not going to participate in the parade (walk along with all those celebrating), then book a hotel room with a balcony that overlooks the parade route. Even if the room is pricey, it’ll at least give you the opportunity to be a part of the festivities.
Otherwise, be sure to tell your band as well as your guests about your plans to join the parade and go forth when it’s your opportunity to join!
You’re All Set!
It’s the details that make celebrations fun! Set the theme of the event as fun-casual, ask your guests to come in early, and prepare for the day with some sunscreen, water and extra food. Also, get some extra portable chargers so everyone’s phone has enough juice.
And be ready to bring plenty of those bead necklaces along! It’s the party of the year!
