Jazz is one of the most vast musical genres around today. We know this better than anyone as our band plays live jazz for everything from weddings and parties to corporate events. When it comes to jazz, out of the many classical styles out there, what we specialize in is trad (traditional) or original jazz.
Original jazz includes forms like swing, ragtime and Dixieland and to us, in many ways is more beautiful than many other musical genres, forms and styles today.
Stop What You’re Doing and Hear Some Trad Jazz
You might be wondering what all the fuss is about or what makes traditional jazz so amazing. Well, to be fair, there are a lot of things that give traditional jazz the edge we feel it holds over many other musical forms.
If you’ve not had the pleasure of doing so already, here are 3 reasons you should stop whatever you’re doing and check out some of the amazing traditional jazz music out there:
You’re Already Curious
Curiosity may have killed the cat but it also helped invent the wheel, discover lost civilizations, pushed us to the moon and most recently resulted in the first picture of a black hole! Curiosity is also what leads us to finding new things that we had no idea we would love.
If you’re still reading this blog, you’re probably curious about traditional jazz and what it’s all about. Strike while the iron is hot! YouTube some traditional jazz like Louis Armstrong, Bing Crosby or Jelly Roll Morton to get you started and take it from there.
You’re Missing Out
If you’re someone who enjoys music and loves a good melody or tune, traditional jazz is just full of them. You’ve got everything from upbeat compositions you can clean the house to on a Sunday to romantic ballads to rival the best of what classic rock has to offer!
You’ve got musicians with more instrumental prowess than Steve Vai on an electric guitar and more soul than a hundred Lana Del Ray tunes would offer in a lifetime— no exaggeration. If you think you’ve heard all the music the world has to offer but haven’t heard enough trad jazz, you’re missing out!
You’ll Gain Musical Experience
Finally, if you’re someone who counts yourself as a music enthusiast or someone who has a deep love and interest in music of all kinds you can’t miss out on traditional jazz. Besides the fact that traditional jazz has influenced, awed and inspired modern musicians and the work they do, it is also music that has more depth than a lot of the stuff produced today.
Exposing yourself to a little traditional jazz is important if you want to comment on music in general or want to gain a better understanding of music and how it has evolved. Furthermore, much of your modern day popular music is actually quite terrible by way of quality.
Most traditional jazz is not music that was produced in a sterilized studio environment with nameless faceless contributors and a poster boy to take all the credit. This music is raw, real and collaborative.
If you’re a self respecting music aficionado, and you haven’t yet heard trad jazz, drop what you’re doing and listen to a few traditional jazz tunes now!
If you want to organize a live traditional jazz performance, we’d love to help. Traditional jazz is melodious, deep, real and absolutely wonderful and anyone who has heard enough would agree!
